Using the Site

This website is the main vehicle for distributing materials created by the eCoLoRe project.

The same links appear down the side of each page.

The first group of links points to information about the project. As well as news, you will find an overview of our aims. Information about the members of our consortium and how to contact us is also provided. If you have anything which you would like to share with the community, please join our forum.

The main content of the site can be found under Materials. These fall into two categories:

  • Guidelines - these modular resources serve two main purposes. Firstly, they provide essential information about the eContent localisation process and associated tools. Secondly, they offer advice about how to select and create materials with which to exercise translation and localisation tools. In addition to these, our brief introductory overviews provide a way into the field.

  • Training Kits - these include sample texts representing various file formats (e.g. .html, .doc, .ppt, WinHelp, .xls) and text types, and populated translation memories. These raw materials can be used to exercise translation and localisation tools in a number of scenarios.

If you have used our materials, please contribute by submitting feedback.

The final section collects links to other online material that is relevant to the field of eContent localisation. In addition to resources relating to key localisation standards and organisations, there are links to software producers, projects working on related issues and glossaries of terms specific to the field.

In the main body of each page, links in green are local to the site (e.g. overview), while those in red take you outside (e.g. TMX). Orange links indicate glossary entries (e.g. localisation).

We hope this site will serve as a useful model for others wishing to deliver online multilingual resources, using free, open source, software. To this end we provide documentation about its design.
